1. Hayward W3RC9740CUB SharkVac Robotic Pool Cleaner

- Cleaner Type: Robotic
- Pool Type: In-ground
- Wall Climbing: No
- Weight: 21.5lbs
- Warranty: 1 year
If you’re looking for an affordable pool cleaner that is able to do the basics well, then the Hayward SharkVac is a good choice. It features a well built design made out of quality materials, and is also very quiet while it operates.
With no hoses or booster pumps required the SharkVac is easy to set up and operate making a a great choice for beginner pool owners.
The Hayward SharkVac is designed for residential in-ground pools up to 20′ x 40′ and of any surface type. It is able to clean only the pool floor and will take up to 2 hours to complete the cleaning cycle.
If you’re after a SharkVac model with wall and waterline cleaning capability then I’d recommend checking out the Hayward SharkVac XL.
They Hayward SharkVac uses advanced steering technology which helps it to easily navigate your pool while performing an efficient and thorough clean. This navigation is also complimented by a larger than average leaf collection basket, making it a great choice for a pool surrounded by trees.
However though the Hayward SharkVac claims to have an easy to remove filter, this at times can be difficult to remove due to the button sticking.
One thing to consider with the SharkVac is that it does weigh on the heavier side, weighing 21.5lbs. This can make placing the cleaner gently into the water difficult for some people.
Pros:
- Easy so set up and operate
- Handles leaves well
- Durable
- Effective navigation system
Cons:
- Heavy
- Filters can be tricky to remove
- Only cleans the pools floor
2. Hayward Poolvergnuegen Automatic Pool Cleaner

- Cleaner Type: Suction Side
- Pool Type: In-ground
- Wall Climbing: Yes
- Weight: 4.9lbs
- Warranty: 1 Year
The Hayward Poolvergnuegen is a suction pool cleaner designed for residential in-ground pools up to 16 x 32ft and for surfaces made of Gunite, Vinyl, Fiberglass, pebble and Tile.
The Poolvergnuegen uses a 2 wheel drive system, these wheels feature a robust tire tread. This allows for enhanced climbing ability, giving it the capability to clean all areas off the pool from the walls, and even up to the waterline, as well as great manoeuvrability over objects like drains.
It comes equiped with 33′ of hose, as well as 3 interchangeable throats which allows for optimisation of suction performance at lower flow, as well as giving it the ability to tackle larger debris such as leaves or sticks due to its wide suction inlet.
This makes it a great choice of suction cleaner for use with variable speed pumps. Do to note though it does require a minimum 1/2 hp or 35 gpm pump to operate properly.
To navigate its way around the pool the Hayward Poolvergnuegen uses multiple pre-programmed internal steering sequences. These cause the left wheel to periodically reverse, allowing it to turn and move in different directions. This feature ensures full pool coverage and efficient cleaning.
Pros:
- Cleans all areas of the pool
- Operates on low flow pumps
- Handles large debris well
- Robust tire tread for extra grip
- Long hose length
Cons:
- Can occasionally clog with sticks or acorns
- Only comes with a 1 year limited warranty
3. Hayward AquaNaut 400 suction pool cleaner

- Cleaner Type: Suction Side
- Pool Type: In-ground
- Wall Climbing: Yes
- Weight: 22.2lbs
- Warranty: 1 year
The Hayward AqauNaut 400 is another great choice if you’re in the market for a suction side pool cleaner. Designed specifically to clean in-ground pools up to 20 x 40ft in length, and of any shape and surface type.
The AquaNaut 400 comes equiped with a generous 40ft of hose length, and just like the Hayward Poolvergnuegen can operate on a minimum 1/2 hp or 35 gpm pump making it the ideal partner for variable speed pumps.
Using its patented 4-wheel drive system the Aquanaut 400 is supposed to be able to scale the pool walls reaching right to the waterline, while also giving it the ability to easily manoeuvre over objects such as lights or drains. However this isn’t always the case. The AquaNaut 400 has at times been known to struggle reaching the waterline, more so if the pools surface is made out of pebble.
The AquaNaut 400 uses adjustable roller skirts that adjust to different, or uneven surfaces. In return this allows the cleaner to keep constant suction resulting in a deeper more thorough clean.
To tackle large debris with minimal blockage the Hayward AquaNaut 400 uses a V-flex variable vane turbine which allows for an easier pathway for debris to pass through, while at the same time maximising suction power.
Much like the Hayward SharkVac, the Hayward AquaNaut is also quite a heavy unit weighing 22.2lbs. This can make transporting and removing the cleaner for the pool difficult for some people.
Pros:
- Strong suction
- Long hose feed
- Great at handling large debris
- 4-wheel drive system
Cons:
- Heavy
- Can sometimes fail climbing to the waterline
4. Hayward TriVac 500 pressure side pool cleaner

- Cleaner Type: Pressure side
- Pool Type: In-ground
- Wall cleaning: Yes
- Weight: 15.9lbs
- Warranty: 1 year
The Hayward TriVac is our only pressure side pool cleaner on our list today. The TriVac automatic pool cleaner is designed for in-ground pools, up to 20 x 40ft in length, and of any surface type. It is able to clean all areas of the pool, including the pool walls, and up to the waterline.
The TriVac 500 comes equiped with a powerful sweeping hose which is used to stir up debris on the pools surface, as well as get into any hard to reach spaces. This sweeping hose is complimented nicely by its oversized suction inlet which allows it to cover a larger surface area at a more efficient rate.
The Hayward TriVac is powered by it patented AquaDrive Technology which involves using 3 powerful water jets which propel the cleaner forward. These jets are not only effective at loosening stubborn dirt, but are also gentler on the pools surface when compared to traditional pool cleaners.
The TrVac 500 uses an XL easy to open debris bag which is able to accommodate a large amount of debris resulting in less cycle interruptions due to the cleaner needing to be emptied. This bag also contains a float which keeps the bag on the pool surface making it more convenient to empty.
Pros:
- Cleans all areas of the pool
- Gentle on the pools surface
- Wide suction inlet
- Large filter bag
Cons:
- Can struggle cleaning stairs
- 1year warranty

- Cleaner Type: Robotic
- Pool Type: In-ground
- Wall Cleaning: Yes
- Weight: 21.5lbs
