There are many things to love about converting your pool to salt water. Not only is it gentler on your skin and eyes, but it can also help relieve aches and pains in joints and muscles.
But what exactly is a salt water chlorination system, and how does it work?
Today we’re going to be taking an in-depth look at the CircuPool RJ45 chlorination system to see its features, and their benefits. But first, lets quickly go over how it works.
How does the circuPool rJ45 work?
The RJ45 uses a process know as electrolysis, which creates chlorine through the salt molecules in the water in order to sanitise your pool. A small electric charge is applied across a set of titanium plates inside the Electrolytic Cell and in return produces Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOCl).
In water, Sodium Hypochlorite dissociates into sodium (NA+) and hypochlorite (OCl-) ions. It is the hypochlorite ions that form with the hydrogen (H+) ions (from the water) to form hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which is the active agent that destroys bacteria and algae, and oxidizes organic matter. This form of chlorine works quickly in the pipe, leaving only a mild residual in the pool.
Circupool RJ45 Plus quick review

The CircuPool RJ-45 Plus is one of CircuPool’s most popular saltwater chlorine systems. The RJ45 features a modern well constructed design, and can be used in pools up to 45,000 gallons in volume.
In full production the CircuPool RJ45 is able to produce up to 2lbs of chlorine a day, which is equivalent to nearly 2 gallons of liquid chlorine! The Rj45 features a clear cell which allows you check to see if there is any calcium buildup on the titanium cell plate, and it also gives you the ability to see the chlorine being produced.
The CircuPool RJ45’s cell has an average life span of a whopping 15,000 hours, unlike the CircuPool CORE Series which is expected to last around 10,000 hours. A replacement cell will cost around $690.00.
The RJ-45 features an easy to use OLED display which allows you to alter chlorine output, activate boost mode, and notifies you when the salt cell needs to be replaced. This display also shows your pools salt levels, and will indicate if your pools salt content is too low, or too high. The display module is protected by a clear, weatherproof protective cover.
The CircuPool RJ45 is easy to set up and install, and does not require installation by a trained professional in order to keep the warranty. The RJ-45 will also replace Hayward Aqua Rite systems without cutting or gluing, making it a snap to upgrade your salt pool system!
If you want to prolong the life of your salt cell it is recommend that you purchase a CircuPool salt system that is designed for double your pools water capacity. This will allow you to operate your system at 50% power, which in return will put less stress on your salt cell.
