Dolphin triton ps pool cleaner Review: specs, features & alternatives

Dolphin triton ps

The Dolphin Triton PS is an automatic robotic pool cleaner designed by Maytronics. The Triton Dolphin PS is one of 2 models from the Triton series.

Today we’ll be taking an in-depth look at the Dolphin Triton Ps to see who it’s best suited for, and why it’s so popular.

So let’s jump into it.

Who’s the Dolphin Triton pS best suited for?

The Dolphin Triton is a good choice for anyone who is looking for an affordable energy efficient robotic pool cleaner, that’s easy to set up, and operate.

If you sometimes struggle removing your automatic cleaner from your pool then the Triton Ps may be the answer. It features a lightweight 16.5lb design.

It’s best suited for anyone who has an in-ground pool that is up to 50ft length. It’s a good choice of cleaner if your pool mainly has large to fine debris like sticks, leaves, bugs, and pebbles. For the standard price the Dolphin Triton PS will come with course and fine filters, however if your pool has an issue with algae or is prone to micro particles like dust or pollen, then you can purchase an ultra-fine filters at an added cost.

What’s good about the Dolphin Triton PS

The Dolphin Triton Ps robotic pool vacuum cleaner is a great cleaner for many reasons, the first being its ability to clean all areas of the pool. The Triton PS does a great job cleaning the floor, walls, and even up to the waterline. This is thanks to its PowerStream Mobility which propels multiple jets of water from the cleaner onto the pools surface. This allows the Triton PS to create maximum suction over uneven surfaces, and while climbing the walls.

The Dolphin Triton PS a great robotic pool cleaner when it comes to connivence. whether it’s from its simple plug and play operation, or its weekly timer scheduler which gives you the ability to pick the days when it automatically cleans the pool for you, meaning you don’t even have to lift a finger.

Maytronics have really thought about convenience with the Dolphin Triton when comes to the easy to remove filter basket. This is simply removed at the press of a button and easily cleaned with a garden house. To compliment all these other aspects the Dolphin Triton also features a lightweight design with an easy to grip handle, making it easy to lift from the pool.

The Dolphin Triton PS uses an energy efficient motor that cost around 5¢ an hour to run, which is great for the power-bill. Though this motor is energy efficient, this doesn’t compromise performance. The Triton PS still has enough suction power to make short work of any debris that comes into its path.

What’s not so great about the Dolphin Triton PS pool cleaner

The Good news is, there aren’t very many areas of the Dolphin Triton PS that aren’t great.

The main negative aspect of the Triton PS is its ability to manoeuvre over drains on the pools surface. Though it does’t always get stuck, it can at times become hung up which disrupts its cleaning cycle.

Other than that, the only other real downsides is the fact that you have to buy extra filters in order for the Dolphin Triton to be able to filter ultra-fine particles. And also that the Triton PS doesn’t come with a caddy as part of the standard package.

Some users have also mentioned that though the Dolphin PS can climb the stairs of the pool, it doesn’t do that good of a job.

Triton PS pool cleaner key features

anti-tange swivel cable

The Dolphin Triton PS uses a 60ft anti-tangle cable which has multiple buoys attached to it. These help keep the cable afloat on the pools surface and out of the way. The chord is then connected to the base of the cleaner by a swivel that has 360° rotation. This makes the Triton PS a reliable to be left to clean unsupervised.

Weekly timer Scheduler

This feature allows you to take your automatic pool cleaning to the next level by giving you the ability to “set, and forget”. This means you can set the Dolphin Triton PS to clean every days, every second day, or every third day. The can be extra handy if you’re out of town for the weekend and you still like your pool to get cleaned.

Extra large filter basket

The Triton PS comes packed with an extra large top loaded filter basket. This basket is big enough to easily accomodate a a decent amount of large debris like sticks and leaves. These filters do a great job trapping and retaining any dirt particles. Thanks to the fact that this basket is top loaded, removing and cleaning the filters is easy and efficient.

CleverClean Navigation

This is what the Dolphin PS uses to find its way around the pool. This works by using multiple different algorithms which map out the fastest route to take when cleaning the pool resulting in a more efficient clean. This is also supposed to give it the ability to detect objects in its path and navigate around them, however this doesn’t always work great.

Quick water Release system

The Triton PS robot uses a quick water release system which drains any excess water from the cleaner as you remove it from the pool. This paired with its already lightweight design makes removal and transportation of the unit much easier than other pool cleaners.

PowerStream Mobility

PowerStream Mobility works by propelling multiple jets of water against the pools surface. In return this creates maximum suction over uneven surfaces, and gives the Triton Ps the ability to easily scale the pools walls right up to the waterline.

Dolphin Triton PS user reviews

While reading over multiple reviews for the Dolphin Triton Ps pool cleaner it was clear to see that it had acquired a loyal following of happy customers. Here are few things they had to say about it.

This guy is the best!!!! I have to say that we have never had one before so I really don’t have anything to compare it to. So, after reading the reviews (before my purchase) I was really skeptical and was afraid I had made a bad choice upon purchasing it. But boy was I wrong!!! This guy does everything they said it would. It picks up even the tiniest of debris, it works all over the pool whereas some people were saying that it cleaned in one specific pattern continually”.

We have a large pool and lots of trees that like to feed it. Bought this after some research and its awesome. Cleans the thing great, including the walls and entry stairs. I would buy this AGAIN!

Over the years, we have gone through several types of pool cleaners. Most would get clogged easily, clog the filters, etc. then we hired a pool service charging $200 per month. Looking for another option! This was our first purchase of a robotic pool cleaner and we LOVE it. Throw it in the pool and 2 hours later, the pool is spotless….do that once or twice a week and we are good to go. Also, love that is scrubs the walls and steps!

Now just like every product not every user had a positive experience with the Dolphin Triton Ps, here are their thoughts.

I’ve had the Triton PS for over 2 years now. The first year, it worked great, picking up almost all leaves and dirt, and not did not tangle. In year 2, it started to tangle somewhat but was still usable. It started to become less efficient at cleaning (after 1 or even 2 sessions, there would be 30 to 50% of the leaves and dirt still in the pool).

After the 2nd year, the unit still runs, but it doesn’t do much. It gets tangled very easily, requiring 10-15 minutes of untangling after each and every run. When it runs, it seems to be able to vacuum dirt into the unit, but it goes straight through to the “exhaust” up top and you see a puffing chimney-like spew of that same dirt, right back into the pool .

Works okay, but not nearly as well as my 6 year old Dolphin Nautilus. Never seems to run a full cycle and never gets everything. Very easy to get in and out of the pool and clean. Top load basket is nice and easy to dump out and clean. Cord is a lot thinner than the old ones as well.

It’s safe to say though that negative reviews were few and far between.

The Polaris P825 is another good choice if you’re looking for an automatic pool cleaner that has great cleaning ability, but won’t break the bank.

Just like the Dolphin Triton PS it’s able to clean all areas of the pool, and has an extra large filter canister which is able to contain a large amount of debris. The Polaris P825 comes with a caddy included for the standard price, which is quite rare for an automatic pool cleaner of this price.

The Dolphin Active 60 is another well designed automatic pool cleaner that features all the bells and whistles that you’d want. It packs some great suction power, and features many of the same patented features that dolphin is renowned for.
